Branch, in git. A line of work that splits from the trunk — and often comes back.
Adar is a fast, visual Git client for every repository — GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, Azure DevOps or your own server. It drives the git you already have, with the keys you already use.

IWhy “Adar”
Antler, horn. Oreinaren adarrak — the antlers of a deer.
Branch of a tree. Zuhaitzaren adarrak — the branches of a tree.
Branch, in git. A line of work that splits from the trunk — and often comes back.
In Basque, one word names the branches of a tree and the antlers of a deer: shapes that split, grow and carry their whole history in their form. A Git repository grows the same way. We just drew it.
IIEnborraThe trunk
Every forest starts with a trunk, and so does every repository: one history that everything else grows from.
Lanes, labels, avatars and a live // WIP node. Drag a branch onto another to merge or rebase. Tens of thousands of commits, still smooth.

IIIAdarrakThe branches
Branches split to reach the light, grow on their own, and sometimes grow back together.
Adar is the whole of your daily git — commits, branches, rebases, conflicts, remotes — laid out where you can touch it, with an undo button for when you touch the wrong thing.
Coloured lanes, avatars, branch, tag and remote labels, stashes and a // WIP node. Search by message, author, SHA, content or path — smooth through tens of thousands of commits.
Drop a branch onto another to merge, rebase, fast-forward or push.
Stage or discard whole files, single hunks or just the lines you mean.
Pick, reword, edit, squash, fixup or drop — and drag to reorder.
Pick A, B or both, edit the output, then continue, skip or abort.
Every action a few keystrokes away (⌘P), and a built-in git console when you want to type.
Keep a project’s repositories together under a named, coloured group and reopen them in one click.
IVEraztunakThe rings
A tree adds one ring every year and never loses one: its whole life is written in the wood.
Read the history of any file, see the last change to every line, and take back what you just did.
Checkouts, commits, branches, tags, resets and stashes: take them back. Undo refuses to run if the repository changed since, so it never makes things worse.
Every version of a file and the commit behind every line, with syntax highlighting and intra-line changes.
Fix the message of the latest commit or an older one on your branch, in place. Adar tells you first if it was already pushed.
VSustraiakThe roots
Roots drink from what is already in the ground. Adar runs on the git, the keys and the terminal already on your Mac.
Adar drives the git already installed on your Mac, so it works with exactly the credentials you use in the terminal. When git needs a username, a token or an SSH passphrase, Adar asks in a dialog and git stores it with your usual credential helper.
gh auth & credential helpersNothing to sign up for, no proxy servers, no limits on which repositories you open.
Adar doesn’t phone home. Anything that would talk to a third-party service is opt-in.
Destructive actions ask first and can be undone. Repositories whose config would run commands open only once you trust them.
Command line
Type adar in any repository — like code . — and it opens in a new tab. Point it at a folder that holds several repositories and they open together as a tab group. Install it once from Adar → Install Command Line Tool…
VIEgunsentiaDawn
After every winter a deer sheds its antlers and grows a new set — larger, with more tines, as it grows older. Adar grows the same way.
Each version branches a little further, and the app updates itself when the next one is out.

Apple Silicon · M1 and newer
Needs a recent macOS on Apple Silicon and Git 2.26 or newer (xcode-select --install or brew install git).
You seem to be on another system. Adar runs on macOS for now; Linux and Windows are on the roadmap — the code is mostly portable and help is welcome.
Open the .dmg and drag Adar to Applications.
Adar isn’t signed with an Apple Developer ID yet, so macOS may say it “is damaged”. Run this once in Terminal, then open Adar normally:
xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Adar.appAdar updates itself from GitHub Releases — Adar → Check for Updates…
$git clone https://github.com/mikelgarciaurbina/adar.git
$cd adar && npm install
$npm run devNode.js 22+, Git 2.26+, macOS. Read AGENTS.md before sending a pull request.
Release notes, older versions and checksums live on GitHub. The changelog on the roadmap page is read from the same place.
